With the bride looking absolutely great in a gorgeous wedding gown, it makes sense that the groom should complement her and look simply fabulous as well. Wedding tuxedos for the groom and his groomsmen are an absolute must for every wedding, especially if it is a formal one. But with all the many options of wedding tuxedos out there available today, from rentals to buying a tux, to choosing the different styles, how do you know how to choose the right one?
Tips on Choosing the Right Tux
Usually, wedding tuxedos are chosen after the bride and her bridesmaids already have their attire, since the gowns and tuxes have to be coordinated with each other. After that, choosing the right tux should be the next step. Begin your search at least 3-6 months before the wedding.
Do not leave it at the last minute or rush it, because you might end up just getting anything for the sake of having something to wear. A wedding is one of the most important moments in the groom’s life, too, so the groom should look great and feel comfortable wearing his tux for this wonderful event as well.
Obtaining a Tuxedo: Buy or Rent
So… To rent or to buy? That is the question. If you’re the type of person who usually attends formal gatherings, then it’s a good idea to buy a wedding tuxedo. But for those who rarely do, you can go for rentals. Take note, though, that buying wedding tuxedos is sometimes better than renting one. This is because rented tuxedos are sometimes ill-fitting and uncomfortable and don’t fit very well.
If you’ve found a rental that looks good on you, though, then go for it. Reserve it asap so that you don’t have to rush and end up with the awful leftovers. When you pick up your wedding tuxedos, make sure that it’s in good condition—meaning, check it for tears, stains, damage, etc. Remember that we all want to look good for the wedding photographs, which will serve as a memento for this blessed event for the rest of our lives.
Tuxedo Size
So how do you know whether your wedding tuxedos are just the right size? Try this. Relax your arms at your sides and extend your fingers. If you meet the following criteria, then you’re sure that it’s just right: one, the tuxedo hem does not go beyond the middle finger; two, the shirt sleeve peeks out from the tuxedo sleeve not more than half an inch; and three, the trousers skim the shoes in the back and grazes the tops of the shoes in front.
Tuxedo Style
For the style of the wedding tuxedos, it all depends on the location, whether it is a formal or informal wedding, and also the wedding’s time of day.
For formal weddings during the daytime, wedding tuxedos are extremely suitable with a vest underneath it over a white collared dress shirt and tie. For a more classy appearance, add a little handkerchief in your coat pocket.
On the other hand, for a semiformal wedding, a black or dark charcoal tux with a white shirt having a turned-down collar is appropriate. You can also accessorize it with a cummerbund/vest and a bow tie for a nicer touch.
Meanwhile, for formal weddings in the evening, you can go all out with wearing the most formal of tuxes, like wearing black wedding tuxedos with tails. Complement this look with a tie, vest, cufflinks, and polished shoes, and then you’re done!
