Wedding Shower Ideas

Good wedding shower ideas include all or many of the following ingredients: Good food, entertainment of some sort, a comfortable place at which to have the party, and possibly a theme and some games that everybody can be a part of to make the occasion that much more special.

Food

Wedding shower ideas should always include food. Good food can be had by having the shower at a restaurant, having the shower catered, or by making it yourself. Most people don’t go to the trouble of serving a seven-course meal, but you do want to provide at least some kind of food, something like simple hors d’ oeuvres or perhaps little sandwiches with chips or a vegetable tray (don’t forget dips!). Of course, you’ll want drinks, but you don’t have to get elaborate – iced tea, coffee, and sodas make an excellent assortment of drinks that most people find perfectly suitable.

Place & Theme

Another thing to keep in mind when thinking about wedding shower ideas is that where you have the shower could tie in with the theme. For instance, if the couple plans on having their honeymoon or to live after the wedding someplace near the ocean, you can have a tropical-themed party.

Finding a swimming pool at a private residence (friends, relatives, clubhouse) or even renting the pool at a local park would be ideal. This could also help with what you serve in the way of food. Tropical-themed wedding showers could have tropical foods and drinks served such as pineapple, coconut cake, pina colada cocktails, and seafood.

Games

Games play a good part in many wedding shower ideas, but these are not mandatory. You can have an excellent party without games, but some people find it helps “break the ice” with guests who may not know one another very well. One good game is “Trivia.” This game is simple, but you do need someone to keep track of who answers what and who answers correctly.

All the players need do is answer questions drawn from a bowl like, “What is the bride and/or groom’s favorite pastime?” Or, “If the bride and/or groom were stranded on a deserted island, what three things would they want to have with them?” Whoever gets the most correct answers wins (something appropriate, yet inexpensive). Of course, the bride and/or groom provide the answers, so this game is excellent in that it gets everybody at the party involved – guests and the guest(s) of honor.

Entertainment

Entertainment, as part of your wedding shower ideas, can range from having quiet music from a stereo in the background to hiring a magician or psychic to come and “amaze” the participants. A caricature artist or a comedian liven up parties, as well. It’s all up to you and your budget.

So those are some things to get you thinking about wedding shower ideas and how to turn the event into a memorable one. Whomever the party is for will think back to this time and forever fondly remember what a great shower it was – and all because of you!
