Most wedding showers incorporate some type of wedding shower games to keep the guests entertained. Although the purpose of a wedding shower is to honor the bride and most guests enjoy spending time with the other guests using games is a fun way to help the guests get to know each other better and can also serve a useful purpose for the bride. In this article we will discuss both wedding shower games which are solely for the purpose of entertainment and those which also complete a task on the brides to do list for the upcoming wedding.
Breaking the Ice
At many traditional wedding showers the guest lists includes friends of the bride as well as female family members from both the bride’s family as well as the groom’s family. This can create an awkward situation if the families of the bride and the groom do not know each other well.
Wedding shower games which help people to get to know each other are a fun way to help people to start mingling. One creative game is a person scavenger hunt. To prepare for the game ahead of time, ask each guest to provide a unique fact about themselves when they RSVP. Next create a list for each guest of a few of these unique facts. At the party, each guest will receive one list and be challenged to find the person corresponding to the fact. This game encourages the guests to talk to each other and learn more about each other.
Hold a Raffle
Raffles are also popular wedding shower games. These games are not only fun for the guests but can also be a tremendous help for the bride. The host of the party should purchase a few small gifts ahead of time in anticipation of this game. These gifts will serve as the raffle prizes.
The planner may also purchase thank you cards which coordinate with the theme of the party. At the party ask each guest to write their name and address on an envelop and use these envelops as the raffle tickets. The guests enjoy the excitement of participating in the raffle and the busy bride can cross one task off her to do list because she already has the envelops labeled for the purpose of sending out thank you notes to the shower attendees.
Get Silly
Wedding shower games don’t always have to serve a particular purpose such as helping guests to get to know each other or completing a task for the busy bride. Some games are just plain fun.
One really fun game is a relay race where participants go through the process of getting ready for a wedding. An example of this game may include the first participant running a lap of a pre-determined course in a pair of white high heels. She then hands off the high heels to the next participant who must then find and affix a veil before completing the course and handing off both the high heels and the veil to the next participant. The third participant must run with the high heels and veil and find a ring and put it on before crossing the finish line.
This is just one simple example of the wedding day relay game. The game can be modified to include other elements of wedding day preparations such as arranging centerpieces, taking a bite of wedding cake or any other fun activities associated with a wedding.
