Your wedding day should include some measure of fantasy. After all, you hope to do it once only and what better excuse is there to spend the happiest time of your life in an atmosphere you have dreamed of for years? Whatever your personality, think outside the square and conjure up images of romance, elegant grandeur, happy simplicity or absolute fun.

Out Of The Ordinary Wedding Reception Venues

This is the day of days and you can turn it into a magical experience by choosing an out of the ordinary wedding reception venue. Traditionally, the reception is held at a function hall, restaurant, hotel ballroom or a garden, either public or at someone’s home. If you put your mind to it, you can come up with a range of wedding reception venues that needn’t necessarily cost more, and could actually be less expensive!

What is your fantasy? What kind of personalities do you both have? How much can you afford? Where will your wedding be located? How many guests will attend? These are all necessary considerations when looking for a place to hold your wedding reception.

Animal lovers

There are zoos and animal sanctuaries that will gladly host your wedding in their parks or elsewhere on their premises. Imagine having photos taken with giraffes or elephants in the background, or while feeding beautiful white geese or swans. If there will be lots of children at your wedding, they could even be let loose in the grounds while the adults enjoy the proceedings. Ask if you can pay some supervisors to show the children around and meet the animals.

Southern belle

Whether you are New Yorkers or residents of the nation’s capital, if your fantasy is to recreate the romance of a bygone era, you can hold your wedding reception at a southern mansion, complete with soaring marble staircase, horse and carriage ride and all the best of southern cuisine.

Of course, there is the important consideration of whether your guests will follow you to far away location but if your wedding is small, it could be the ideal venue. Dress like a couple from the early days, dance to music of the era and engage the services of a southern minister – and perhaps even a choir – for extra authenticity.

Cruise away to wedded bliss

If your wedding will be held in a city where there is a harbor, a river or it’s close to the ocean, you might like to hold your wedding reception on a yacht or other aquatic vessel. A Mississippi paddle steamer would be wonderfully relaxing, while a glamorous yacht would feel decadent and opulent. Holding your wedding on a boat would be a very ‘moving’ experience indeed.

Island dreams

As expensive or cheap as you like, an island wedding reception can be luxurious and stylish or bargain basement fun and full of laughter. Whatever your budget, be creative and you’ll come up with clever ideas for how to pull it off and have everyone enjoy themselves completely.

I know a quaint little Italian bistro

Sure, why not? There’s no reason why you can’t gather all your guests and treat them to pizza, Chianti and cappuccinos for your wedding reception. Who says a wedding has to be entirely formal and elegant? If your wish is to be casual and have a great, lively party, then an Italian bistro, Chinese yum cha or Greek plate smashing could be just the trick.

When you’re planning your wedding reception, it should suit your wishes and dreams. It’s all too easy to be dictated to when it comes to what’s ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, but remember, it’s one day out of your life and you want it to be memorable for all the best reasons.
