While you are creating all of your invitations to your wedding ceremony and reception, you might find yourself challenged to come up with a creative way to word it. Invitations should be very formal and proper, and you might find it difficult to find acceptable wedding reception invitation wording that doesn’t sound too casual or too unlike what it should sound like. However, there are several guidelines you can follow to get the best wedding reception invitation wording possible.
Formality
When writing out your rough draft of the invitation, you should always write extremely formally. You should never write something like “Guess what, people?! You are all invited to my wedding! It’s gonna be a blast, I hope you can all make it!†(Note that this is an extreme example of what could happen. I know none of you are silly enough to write something like this).
Instead, you might find something like “You are cordially invited to the wedding ceremony and reception of…â€, followed with whatever details necessary. Your wedding reception invitation wording will be much more successful if you write with this style.
Hosts
Naturally, your wedding reception invitation wording will be different depending on who is hosting the event. Generally the parents of one of the participants host the wedding. Therefore the invitation should say something like “…request the pleasure of your company at the marriage of their daughter†or “… would be delighted to see you at the holy union of their son, Steve.†If the couple is hosting their own wedding, it is OK to say something like “We would like you to join us at the celebration of our marriageâ€
Dates
As for dates, it is customary to spell them out. I recommend doing this just for traditions sake, but if you feel it is too much of a pain then feel free to write the date and time in digits. Otherwise, something like “June 10th, 2006 at 4:30 PM†would be written as “Saturday, the tenth of june two thousand and six at half after four o’ clock in the afternoonâ€. It makes it easier on the eyes to space out the sentences.
Information
Besides figuring out the optimal wedding reception invitation wording, you also need to consider whether your invitation includes all of the information necessary for someone who wants to attend your wedding. Did you include all the details about the time and date?
How about the location? You should always include detailed directions from a major highway or landmark, so that anyone can find your place of marriage even if they have never been there before. You would not want some poor soul to miss your wedding just because you neglected to direct him properly!
Wedding reception invitation wording can be a hard thing to get right. Look for other, more exact, guides for details on some of the things I have not looked over. Rewrite the invitation over and over until you find something that you can be proud to send out.
After all, the invitation is the first taste your guests will get of your wedding. If it is sub-standard, then they will already have pre-conceived notions about what your wedding will be like. Do not let that happen, and get the wording right the first time!
