Thanks to the internet, planning weddings online ranks as one of the great time and energy savers of our time. No longer do you have to spend hours on the phone or “in person” at florists, wedding dress boutiques, caterers, and all the other suppliers of wedding accoutrements in order to plan your very special day.

Planning a wedding online can be done with your own paper and pencil, or you can access the worksheets and checklists of any number of wedding sites that offer these features. Some sites include one-stop shopping along with their planners to provide everything you could possibly need or want in the way of wedding requirements. These sites most commonly cater to traditional wedding wishes, however, so if you’re planning on something exotic, you’ll probably need to search on your own.

Finding It All Online

For instance, planning a wedding online that includes exotic flowers instead of the traditional roses or daisies will need to include searching sites that offer plumerias, orchids, hibiscus, and other tropical bloomers that are arranged as wedding and bridesmaid bouquets, men’s boutonnieres, and reception table centerpieces.

One-stop wedding Web sites want to capture as large a market as possible, and since most people still opt for traditional weddings, the findings as these sites will most likely be those most commonly requested items.

Finding caterers near where your wedding will be, when planning a wedding online, may or may not be feasible, depending on where you live. Large cities, like New York, Miami, or Los Angeles, will most certainly have a host of food preparation services nearby.

But smaller towns and cities may pose problems with meager online offerings. In those cases, your purposes would be better served to go ahead and call or visit to ensure your wedding day food needs are properly met.

If you know your size and those of your wedding party (or can at least acquire their measurements and calculate the sizes yourself), no longer do you have shop “on foot” for days or weeks for the perfect dress or go in for endless fittings.

You can shop online at your leisure and examine hundreds of wedding, bridesmaid, and flower girl dresses; men’s formal wedding attire; even mother-of-the-bride attire. All necessary accessories are also available: veils, handbags, shoes, jewelry, gloves, and more.

A Note to Die-Hard Traditionalists

But planning a wedding online may be the furthest thing from your mind. You may be one of those hard-nosed, got-to-do-it-just-like-my-mom/grandmother/aunt-did people and feel that for a “truly traditional” wedding, everything must be planned the old-fashioned way. Well, when you come home from shopping at the dressmaker, the florist, the wedding favor shop, etc., with a migraine headache and blisters on your feet, just remember: We told you so! Maybe then, you’ll change your mind, log on, and click your way to an easier wedding – all planned online and at your own, personal convenience.
