Wedding Decorating Ideas for Less

So, you’ve decided to take the plunge, get married, and now you’re in the market for some good wedding decorating ideas. We’ve taken the work (and the search!) out of it for you by gathering together some ideas that you and a few friends can put together to turn your wedding experience into a glorious event to remember!

Take Advantage of On-Sale Seasonal Items

When considering wedding decorating ideas, go above and beyond helium-filled balloons, florist-bought flowers, and crepe paper. Watch for after-season sales and closeouts for things like candles, table lanterns, ribbon, and bows. Not all Christmas décor is green and red, you know. Many yuletide items come in gold, silver, purple, maroon, and other suitable hues that would serve beautifully as wedding décor and/or reception table accents.

And if your wedding’s been planned for during the Christmas season, well, go ahead and incorporate those red and green items as wedding decorating ideas, too! Peppermint-striped tea lights floating in a bowl of distilled water, deep green pillars of varying heights, and even ornaments strewn on a bed of sand all make beautiful Christmas-time wedding decorations.

Practical and Pretty, Too

This is one of the wedding decorating ideas we found that not only serves decoratively, but also can go home with the guests as a memoir of your wedding they can actually use. Purchase an inexpensive glass etching kit (available at hobby stores) and engrave your and your intended’s initials and the wedding date on inexpensive, dollar-store wineglasses. Fill with good-quality candies (think Jelly Bellies), top with a pretty lace circle, and secure with a satin ribbon.

Guests can then enjoy the candies during the festivities, and you’ve tapped into one of the best wedding decorating ideas we’ve discovered! If you don’t want to use wineglasses, you can use jelly jars with your personal info etched into the area where labels normally are placed.

Plant a Wedding Garden

One of our very favorite wedding decorating ideas involves thinking ahead and incorporating willing friends and relatives. Ask everyone you know with a green thumb to plant a “wedding garden” for you. Grow your own floral décor and you’ll wind up saving hundreds of dollars!

Plant and ask everyone else to plant things any type of colorful annual to be used as part of your wedding decorating ideas. Roses, lilies, daisies, and other old-favorites come from perennial plants and bushes, so you may need to ask them to harvest those from long-standing plants that have been around for several years.

You’ll need to plan in advance for this idea, so get your garden in gear right away! For annuals, you’ll need to have them planted and on their way to blossoming at least three months in advance of your wedding.

Along with all the above wedding decorating ideas, you’re sure to come up with even more by brainstorming with family and friends. The more creative you get, well, the more creative you get! So, good luck and happy decorating! (And many happy returns on the wedding, too!)
