Wedding Centerpieces

Your wedding centerpieces play a large role in the overall ambience of your reception. After all, wedding centerpieces are found on every table at your reception. Therefore, you want to choose those that are appropriate, elegant, and decorative while fitting within your overall wedding theme.

Types of Centerpieces

There are many different types of wedding centerpieces you can choose from. The most traditional type of centerpieces are flowers of some sort, but you are not obligated to go this route. In fact, the only stipulation is to have your centerpieces on the table!

Candles make an excellent choice for wedding centerpieces, particularly for evening weddings. Even the candleholder you choose can completely change the look of your centerpieces. Candelabras, hurricane lamps, and decorative votives made from crystal are all attractive variations on this theme.

Birdcages also make attractive wedding centerpieces. You can fill the birdcages with anything you desire, including flowers. Or, you can leave them empty and simply decorate them with ribbon around their center. Another variation is to use baskets or goldfish bowls as centerpieces. You fill them with candy, potpourri, acorns, flowers, marbles, pinecones, fruit, pine branches, or anything else you desire.

You might also you potted plants as wedding centerpieces. These are a stunning alternative to floral centerpieces. You might place one plant on each table, or use several small potted plants in a group on each table. This centerpiece also doubles as an excellent wedding favor. Or, consider decorating straw hats with lace, ribbons, and silk flowers and placing them in the middle of each table.

Seasonal Centerpieces

If you plan to have a wedding around the time of a holiday, you might choose holiday-themed wedding centerpieces. For example, you might use miniature Christmas trees or small wrapped boxes for a wedding taking place around Christmas time. If you are having a Halloween wedding, you might use carved Jack O’Lanterns. For Easter, crystal bowls filled with pastel colored eggs might be an attractive choice.

When it comes to wedding centerpieces, you should let your imagination go wild. Don’t limit yourself to visiting with a florist and seeing what he or she can offer to you. Instead, visit a hobby store and see what type of decorative items they have available. You just might be able to come up with something that is elegant, well-suited to the theme, within your budget, and unique.

Things to Keep in Mind

When you are selecting wedding centerpieces, there are a few things you should keep in mind. For example, your top priority is to make sure your guests are able to comfortably communicate with one another. If they have to raise themselves or their heads up in order to see over your centerpiece, it is far too tall. Similarly, your guests should not need to move from side to side to see past your centerpiece.

Your wedding centerpieces also need to be safe. If you are using candles in your centerpiece, you need to pay particular attention to this aspect. Anything that is flammable should be well out of reach of the candle. Also, select your candleholders carefully to ensure they are flame retardant.

Your wedding centerpieces are more important to your wedding reception than you might think. If chosen correctly, they can truly enhance your overall theme. If chosen incorrectly, they can detract from the look and be distracting to your guests. Therefore, you should be sure to carefully select what you will place on each of your tables.
