Have you any idea how much a wedding costs these days? The problem with weddings is that there is an entire industry built around them and the marketing says that you have to spend a whole year’s salary so that you will start married life off happily. Mention cheap wedding dresses and you’ll be cast aside like a leper.
Why Cheap Wedding Dresses Shouldn’t Make A Bride Cry
People think you have to spend a fortune on a designer gown with all the trimmings and the train that’s still coming into the church when you’re already standing at the altar. Companies who specialize in wedding services want you to think that you must have the best. And frankly, they don’t have to do much convincing because there’s a lot of competition between brides, always has been. Naturally you want to look your radiant best on your big day, but the argument of cheap wedding dresses versus expensive ones needn’t even be an issue. Just don’t tell anyone what you’re spending!
Where to shop
There are companies who offer used gowns for brides who don’t have a particular sentimental attachment to what they wear on their day of days. For some ladies, it’s just a dress, the real sentiment should be reserved for the man they will spend the rest of their life with. We’re a very commercialized society, one who allows marketing gimmicks to dictate our purchasing decisions.
So what if someone else has worn the dress before? Change it and make it your own; add some beads here, some ribbon there. There’s no reason why it can’t be personalized for you. You can even buy cheap wedding dresses on ebay, or by looking in the local newspaper classifieds. Sometimes, even though the dress is cheap in terms of monetary value, it could be an absolute bargain simply because it was worn once already. You might be able to get a designer gown for an off-the-rack price.
Use cheaper fabrics
Some fabrics are so much more expensive than others. Imported French lace, high quality silks and sequinned fabrics can be unjustifiably costly. When you choose the design you’d like, ask your dressmaker what alternative fabrics you can use. Instead of a long lace train hand beaded with Swarovski crystals, go for a couple of lengths of beautiful, frothy tulle and have some sequins sewn in for sparkle. Cheap wedding dresses don’t have to look cheap; you can be clever about how you put them together.
Have someone you know make it
They say it’s bad luck to sew your own wedding dress. Fair enough, but how about asking a close friend or family member to make it for you as your wedding gift? You can pay for all the materials needed, and have your friend or relative sew it free of charge. These make for not only cheap wedding dresses, but dresses that can be cherished by their wearers long after the day is over.
Choose a more bsic style
Instead of layers and layers of billowy material, cut costs by using less fabric and choosing a style that is less complicated to make. If you’re paying your seamstress by the hour, it’ll cost far less. If you’re paying her for the overall making of the dress, it’ll still be cheaper because it’s an easier design. Cheap wedding dresses are about being clever and not being suckered in by marketing gurus and the ‘special-at-any-cost’ game. With planning and by being smart, you’ll look every bit as radiant as any other bride without having to cry over the idea of wearing ‘glad rags’ to your wedding.
