Some wedding elements are timeless. Bridal hair accessories are practically a given, and every bride inevitably decorates her hair with something. It just wouldn’t do to have a magnificent gown with crystals and lace, embellished shoes, and a coin purse dangling from her wrist if her hair was not decorated somehow. But it’s important to be selective when trying to decide what to use. Some are too heavy, some too small for the overall ensemble and some just don’t look right.
Fashions come and go and yet they stay the same. Barrettes, combs, hats, tiaras, hair jewelry and so on have been popular throughout the ages and it only depends on the bride’s taste and the style of her gown as to what she chooses to use.
Post-millennium brides are opting away from veils and sparkly tiaras are becoming the favorite bridal hair accessory. The beauty of a tiara is that it works with any length hair, curly or straight, up or down. Such versatility means that the bride can buy the tiara as soon as she finds one that she adores, and she can still change her mind about the hairstyle even a week before the wedding.
Tiaras
Not all tiaras are extravagant examples of bling. Some are understated and elegant with just a few rhinestones or crystals. Some incorporate porcelain flowers, and others look like delicate compositions of silver or gold. As bridal hair accessories, they can be handed down to daughters or along to sisters and can even become family heirlooms.
Brides that do decide to wear a veil need to choose bridal hair accessories that will work with the veil they buy. It also needs to be decided whether the veil will be worn over the face before the ceremony because in that case, the tiara or other item will have to work both ways.
Keeping hair secure
For outdoor weddings, a bridal hair accessory can be the perfect thing to prevent the bride’s hair from turning into a tousled mess. Barrettes, combs and snoods can keep otherwise-wayward strands in place and afford the bride extra confidence in how she looks. Once a breeze picks up, everybody’s hairstyles are in trouble.
Getting married in Hawaii or some other exotic locale? The only bridal hair accessory you need is a fresh, beautiful hibiscus flower tucked behind your ear, especially if you intend to be married barefoot on the beach. What could be simpler and more elegant?
Simplicity reigns
Still, if simple is your priority, there are plenty of options there too. Jeweled hairpins are practical and pretty and cost next to nothing. Glittery rhinestones or glass beads threaded through the hair make a dazzling impact without being too difficult to use.
A strand of real or fake pearls entwined through braids is easy to do and is also clever. Or, for the simplest bridal hair accessory of all, an Alice band covered in white satin can look perfect with an elegant gown.
One of the most important things to remember when you select a bridal hair accessory is that it suits you. Take someone shopping with you who will be honest about how it looks. It might be the most perfect thing you’ve ever laid eyes on but if it doesn’t suit you, or sit well on your head, then it isn’t perfect for you.
