Unfortunately when organizing a beach wedding, it can be tempting to create invitations that are a little cheesy. Plastering seashells and palm trees all over the paper is taking the easy way out. How about something more abstract, something that requires a little more imagination, less predictable? Your beach wedding invitations don’t have to be kitsch or cartoony – unless you want them to be! They can display as much elegance and style as the couple themselves, or as the location warrants.

Leave the shells on the beach

Taking inspiration from this saying allows you to use a pair of footprints as the motif for the invitation, signifying the loving couple who will exchange their vows on the sand and create beautiful memories of the day to last forever. You can specify on the invitation, if you like, that guests are permitted to go barefoot for the ceremony if they choose.

Photo invitations

Undoubtedly, the setting you will have chosen for your wedding will be somewhere with a glorious view. You could take a series of photos of this picturesque location and turn them into your beach wedding invitations. They could be made to look like postcards and say “Greetings from …” and on the back could be the details of the wedding.

There are plenty of printing companies who can create this for you, as long as you provide them with high resolution photography. If you don’t feel you can take photos of high enough quality, ask your wedding photographer or a skilled friend to take them for you.

Gimmick of gimmicks, you can actually buy bottles that are designed to look like a ‘message in a bottle’, to use as beach wedding invitations. If they suit the mood of your wedding – fun, frivolous and casual – they’re great, but they will cost extra for postage.

Dress code

Considering the venue, it’s really important that you inform guests of the dress code for your wedding. Anyone receive a beach wedding invitation could be forgiven for thinking it will be a casual affair. Heaven forbid, you should have guests turning up in loud Hawaiian shirts and bikini tops! Better to spell it out; if you want your dressed attired in black tie, say so. If you want everyone to be as comfortable as possible, specify casual dress and perhaps “footwear optional”.
