Having a beach wedding? What a lovely idea! Everyone can go barefoot and there can be a huge party right there on the sand. Or, you might have an elegant marquee set up to house your guests after the seaside ceremony, complete with pina coladas and tropical buffet. Whatever the theme, you’ll need beach wedding invitations.
Lose The Hula Girls
Unfortunately when organizing a beach wedding, it can be tempting to create invitations that are a little cheesy. Plastering seashells and palm trees all over the paper is taking the easy way out. How about something more abstract, something that requires a little more imagination, less predictable? Your beach wedding invitations don’t have to be kitsch or cartoony – unless you want them to be! They can display as much elegance and style as the couple themselves, or as the location warrants.
Leave the shells on the beach
Have you heard the expression that the only things you should leave on the beach are your footprints and the only thing you should take is memories? Well, that’s an excellent concept for beach wedding invitations. Taking inspiration from this saying allows you to use a pair of footprints as the motif for the invitation, signifying the loving couple who will exchange their vows on the sand and create beautiful memories of the day to last forever. You can specify on the invitation, if you like, that guests are permitted to go barefoot for the ceremony if they choose.
Photo invitations
Undoubtedly, the setting you will have chosen for your wedding will be somewhere with a glorious view. You could take a series of photos of this picturesque location and turn them into your beach wedding invitations. They could be made to look like postcards and say “Greetings from …†and on the back could be the details of the wedding.
There are plenty of printing companies who can create this for you, as long as you provide them with high resolution photography. If you don’t feel you can take photos of high enough quality, ask your wedding photographer or a skilled friend to take them for you.
Message in a bottle
Gimmick of gimmicks, you can actually buy bottles that are designed to look like a ‘message in a bottle’, to use as beach wedding invitations. If they suit the mood of your wedding – fun, frivolous and casual – they’re great, but they will cost extra for postage.
Dress code
Considering the venue, it’s really important that you inform guests of the dress code for your wedding. Anyone receive a beach wedding invitation could be forgiven for thinking it will be a casual affair. Heaven forbid, you should have guests turning up in loud Hawaiian shirts and bikini tops! Better to spell it out; if you want your dressed attired in black tie, say so. If you want everyone to be as comfortable as possible, specify casual dress and perhaps “footwear optionalâ€.
Important inclusions
Since the wedding will be held at an outdoor location, you’ll need to prepare a contingency plan for inclement weather. If it should rain, what will happen to the ceremony? This will be a question on many guests’ minds when they receive your beach wedding invitations.
Put their minds at ease and add a little note explaining that in the event of rain, the ceremony will be held indoors at (and provide an alternative venue). Also provide directions to the section of the beach where your wedding will take place. Since beaches don’t technically have ‘addresses’, you’ll need to make sure your guests know where to go.
Your beach wedding invitations will be enjoyable to design, create and send out. Regardless of the type of wedding it will be, your guests will be delighted and chances are excellent that the day will be a success all round!
